Alan Shaffer, assistant general manager of delivery for Lakeland Electric, will serve as interim general manager of the utility after Jim Stanfield retires March 30. Shaffer, 55, was promoted to deputy general manager by City Manager Doug Thomas. Shaffer has worked at the utility for 33 years.

LAKELAND | Lakeland Electric customers are getting a break on their bills. City commissioners voted 7-0 Monday to decrease the fuel rate by 11 percent from $49.90 to $44.20 per 1,000 kilowatt-hours. AGREES TO STAY AS GENERAL MANAGER OF LAKELAND ELECTRIC THROUGH MARCH 2012 - (November 21, 2011) -- Although it was previously reported that Lakeland Electric General Manager Jim Stanfield was originally planning to retire on December 31, 2011, he has accepted a request by Lakeland City Manager Doug Thomas to remain at the helm of the utility through March 31, 2012.
