LAKELAND ELECTRIC TO IMPLEMENT FUEL INCREASE
The Lakeland City Commission voted today to increase the fuel charge for Lakeland Electric customers. The current fuel charge for residential customers is $63.80 per 1,000 kWh and effective July 1, 2008 the charge will increase to $72.70 per 1,000 kWh.

The Lakeland Utility Committee recommended the increase after listening to a staff presentation regarding escalating cost for fuel. Oil prices have increased 35% since January, natural gas prices are up 66% since the beginning of the year and coal prices have increased 7% in the past three months.

Lakeland Electric is not the only utility implementing fuel increases. The following utilities have announced fuel increases that will take place over the summer:
