WOOD POLE INSPECTION PROJECT
Lakeland Electric has initiated a wood pole inspection program as an ongoing effort to improve your electrical power system’s performance in the event of a major storm. The initial work is for inspection, treatment, and identifying follow up work where deficient poles will be repaired with a steel strut or replaced at a later date. In 2007 and 2008, Lakeland Electric has contracted with Osmose Utilities Services, Inc (Osmose) who has 68 years of experience in conducting wood pole inspections.

As part of the inspection, our Contractor will conduct some or all of the following items:
1) Visual inspection of the pole and the attachments.
2) Excavating around the pole to a depth of 18 inches.
3) Sounding with a hammer and boring with a drill.
4) Treating the pole with different types of wood preservatives depending on what deficiencies the Contractor finds.
5) The Contractor may return later to install a steel strut down the side of specific poles where the pole strength can be restored with this method.

All excavations will be filled in and everything will be cleaned up before the Contractor leaves the area. If specific poles can not be repaired by strutting, then City Electric crews will return to accomplish pole replacement work.

The Contractor will be inspecting approximately 1/8th of Lakeland Electric’s electrical system’s wood poles each year. The Contractor and Lakeland Electric’s logos will be clearly visible on each vehicle used and their employees will be wearing identifiable badges.

Lakeland Electric requests its’ customers to allow these Contractor employees access to power poles located on private property and/or easements. If you, our customer, have any questions or complaints concerning the project or the Contractor’s employees, please contact Lakeland Electric’s Maintenance & Services Engineering group at 834-8861 or 834-6503. Lakeland Electric extends its’ appreciation to our customers for their cooperation with this multi-year project.
