Residential Service Application and Agreement Forms

Customers with existing Lakeland Electric service usually can handle the details over the telephone, and any deposit will be transferred automatically.

A $10-$15 service connection fee for new service will be charged on the first utility bill. If you need same-day service, there is an additional $15 fee, as well as a $40 fee for any service cut-on after normal business hours.

Is A Deposit Required?

Lakeland Electric will request an Equifax credit check with your authorization. Your social security number is used to obtain this free service, which determines if your security deposit can be waived. This is only available to the person who calls Lakeland Electric with the request. If you are an existing customer and transferring service to a new address, any previous deposit will be automatically transferred to your new account.

Applicants who already have electric and/or water service with the City of Lakeland, and who meet the requirements of excellent utility credit history as defined herein, may activate a second service for up to two weeks without placing an additional deposit.
*Excellent Credit history is defined as: (i) a positive credit scoring provided by an industry recognized credit reporting bureau, and (ii) with none of the following during the most recent 12 month period: 1) cut off order printed, 2) a meter tampering violation, 3) any unpaid outstanding charges, or 4) a returned check.

Residential Customers

Residential utility customers shall be required to pay to the City of Lakeland the following deposits for installation or connection of:

Electric Service $150.00

Water Service $30.00

Electric & Water Service (Combined) $180.00

Wastewater $35

Solid Waste/ Recycling $15

Storm Water $10.00

Polk County Sewer (if applicable) $60.00

Applicants for service that can prove an excellent credit score may have the deposit requirement waived or modified.

Depending on the credit history, the deposit required may be up to two (2) times the average monthly utility cost for that service location.

Returned Deposit Checks

If a check for the initial deposit is returned for insufficient funds, you must make the full payment, by cash or money order within six days to avoid disconnection of service.

Deposit Refunds

All deposits will be held in an account that earns monthly interest. After you have maintained a satisfactory payment history with Lakeland Electric for 24 continuous months, the total deposit will be credited to your electric bill. No checks will be issued unless your account is closed and a credit balance remains. Deposits remaining at the time the account is closed will automatically be applied to the outstanding bill.
